- Specimen Processing: Process biological specimens for analysis, ensuring proper handling and identification.

- Computer Systems: Utilize laboratory computer systems for routine inquiries, data input, and ensuring the accuracy of information.
- Training and Competency Assessment: Instruct new colleagues and students, and assess the competencies of other test performers based on experience and education.
- Continuing Education: Participate in required continuing education units (CEUs) and mandatory in-services to maintain and upgrade professional development.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance to co-workers in the absence of an on-site supervisor regarding staffing and technical issues.
- Education:
- Doctoral, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Alternative qualifications may be considered as outlined in
- 493.1489.
- Experience:
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, CAHEA, or other HHS-approved organization.
- Alternative experience route for High Complexity Testing Personnel as detailed in
- 493.1489.
- Certification:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical certification (or eligibility with certification obtained within one year of hire).
