Virginia Tech is Hiring a Community Design Project Manager Near Blacksburg, VA

Job Description

The Community Design Assistance Center (CDAC) invites applications for a Project Manager to join our team as a non-tenure track, restricted, Administrative and Professional (A/P) faculty position. CDAC is an outreach center in the newly formed College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD).
The CDAC provides conceptual level design assistance to non-profit organizations, community groups, and government agencies in the areas of landscape architecture, architecture, and interior design. The participatory design process paired with the creative ideas of student and staff employees helps communities transform communities' ideas into graphic form. The process also builds community capacity and positions the community to leverage funding for next steps. CDAC personnel include the center director, a full-time landscape designer, two part-time support staff, and on average four project teams of 2-6 students per semester. Faculty, from AAD and other Virginia Tech colleges, periodically provide guidance to the student teams.
Job Description:Reporting to and in collaboration with the Director, this position supports the outreach mission of the CDAC and AAD, in part, through oversight of sponsored outreach projects, supervision of students employed on sponsored projects, day to day administration of sponsored projects, the participatory process with communities, periodically assisting with conceptual landscape design on projects, giving presentations at community meetings and conferences, preparing project reports, public relations, and periodically assisting with project proposals.
A successful candidate will be team-oriented with the ability to work independently; able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines; have strong interpersonal and communication skills; and have excellent organizational skills.
Responsibilities include:- Day-to-day management of sponsored projects, including administrative, budgetary, compliance aspects, coordinating meetings and trips, as well as the corresponding student teams, community organizations, and project schedules.
- Student team oversight and guidance.
- Ability to simultaneously manage separate projects and tasks
- IT coordination and main point of contact within CDAC to address IT issues and coordinate with AAD IT as needed. Such tasks may include, in part, CDAC and project file management, identifying needed updates and software access, etc.
- Public relations such as Facebook and Linked-in posts.

Required Qualifications

- Master's degree in landscape architecture or related field; or, bachelor's degree in landscape architecture with equivalent level of professional experience. Degrees in a related field (interior design, architecture, or urban planning) must be accompanied by experience or training in landscape architecture.
- Practical, applied knowledge of the design and planning processes in landscape architecture, architecture, interior design, and/or urban planning.
- Experience managing federal and/or state grants/sponsored projects and following grant-related policies and procedures and providing deliverables
- Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with design and other software platforms (AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, etc)
- Prior supervisory experience managing employees and project teams
- Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree in landscape architecture or related field
- Licensure in landscape architecture or architecture or progress toward licensure
- Advanced Photoshop and InDesign skills
- Practical knowledge of plant materials and trees

Additional Information

This position will requiring driving, physical demands such as walking (sometimes on uneven terrain), and environmental hazards such as periodically working outside in inclement weather. Frequent regional travel with occasional overnights will be required.

This position can accommodate a hybrid work arrangement of up to one day of telework per week with remote days flexed around business and travel schedule/needs. Hybrid arrangement can be assumed following a fully onsite onboarding period to support successful training and transition. Reliable internet access to support telework will be necessary.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
