Virginia Tech is Hiring an A/R Collections Specialist Near Blacksburg, VA

Job Description

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) provides a comprehensive array of support services for faculty and staff as they pursue and manage external funding projects. The office also functions as the steward of Virginia Tech's research portfolio and its staff is responsible for ensuring that all research proposals and projects comply with university, federal, and sponsor regulations, policies, and procedures. Virginia Tech continues to rise in national university research rankings and remains the top university in Virginia for funds expended in pursuit of engineering, science, and other scholarly outreach and activities.
The Post-Award team tracks direct, indirect, and cost share expenses for all awards and assures compliance with an award's sponsor, federal and university requirements, policies and procedures. This team also processes all billing and invoicing for sponsored projects as well as managing closeout procedures.
The Accounts Receivable (A/R) Collections Specialist will be responsible for monitoring and managing past due invoices. Duties will include but are not limited to:
* Review grants and contracts to determine the payment schedule and invoice instructions to ensure internal compliance with past due invoices.
* Make contact with sponsors to determine reason for non-payment.
* Correspond with internal administrators and sponsors to resolve payment issues.
* Access sponsor/ government vendor systems to determine payment statuses.
* Monitor un-billed projects and inform the Finance team of delinquent invoices.
* Monitor university accounting systems to track payments.
* Attend monthly AR meetings to determine action items for collection strategies.

Required Qualifications

* Strong customer service skills
* Problem solving abilities
* Accounts receivable experience
* Proficiency with standard applications (Adobe PDF, Microsoft Office Suite)
* Previous experience with data entry and the generation/distribution of financial reports

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with managing grants and contracts
* Associates degree in accounting or related field and/or equivalent experience
* Experience providing fiscal and/or administrative support in an academic or professional setting

Additional Information

This is a wage position, which is not eligible for state benefits, and is limited to 1,500 hours per year, which averages 29 hours per week.
