Job Summary/Basic Functions
Virginia State University's Athletics Department is looking to hire two (2) Assistant Athletic Trainers.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer Will:
Create a positive, healthy and safe environment for all student-athletes within the athletic programs;
Be required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Virginia State University, National Athletic Trainers Association, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA);
Assist the agency and/or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor;
Complete all other duties as assigned by Associate VP for Intercollegiate Athletics. Provide good customer service to our students, faculty/staff and constituents.
The incumbent for this position must attend all departmental and required university meetings in person or virtually as determined by the AVP for Intercollegiate Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Entry:
Must be knowledgeable of providing first aid and preventative medical attention, and rehab, to student-athletes as well as the ability to provide instruction on self-care;
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures;
Must have the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
Must be able to work in a diverse and team setting while having the ability to attract student-athletes to VSU;
Must be able to drive a State vehicle to transport student-athletes;
Must have a valid Virginia Driver's License within 60 days of hire, as well as an acceptable driving record;
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and travel on university business as assigned;
Must be computer literate;
Must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited university/college;
Must have and maintain certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA);
Must have and maintain certification in CPR/AED;
Must be licensed by the Board of Medicine;
Must be willing to display good customer service internally and externally.
Additional Considerations:
Master's degree is a plus.
