Virginia MetalFab is looking for motivated and energetic individuals to fill the role of Amada Punch Nester.

WHO YOU ARE IN THIS ROLE

As an Amada Punch Nester, you will be a part of an AWESOME shop team and will work from complicated component drawings, and/or verbal instructions to produce parts that meet specifications as well as measure and inspect parts to verify that they are acceptable. The Nesting Programmer must possess practical metal cutting knowledge to make sound decisions in fabricating parts.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Develop CNC programs for production runs.
  • Analyze drawings to determine dimensions and to choose cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates.
  • Modify existing programs for different machines.
  • Maintain tooling database.
  • Make manual program adjustments as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot issues during the manufacturing process.
  • Set up, adjust and operate lathes, mills, drills and other machine tools and machine parts to specifications. Maintain machine tools and equipment with regular cleaning and lubrication and insure operational efficiency of the machines.
  • Monitor feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and measuring instruments such as micrometer calipers, scales, dial indicators, etc.
  • Read charts to translate decimal to fractional equivalents with ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and other engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Accurately produce parts and accurate counts to match work order quantities (measure, examine, and test completed units in order to ensure conformance to specifications).
  • Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with blueprints.
  • Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly.
  • Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality.
  • Consider tools required to cut particular materials and program machines accordingly.

HOURS

Monday-Thursday 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Friday 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: HS or GED

Experience: 4 years of punch programming preferred, 4 years Sigma Nest Software, related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to set up machinery, have good math skills, and ability to work from blueprints.

Computer Skills: MS Suite, basic computer skills, Sigmanest Software.

Certifications & Licenses:

Other Requirements: Must have a full understanding of print reading and geometric tolerances. Must be able to properly use measuring tools (tape measure, micrometer, angle finder, etc.). MUST BE ABLE TO WEAR PPE SUCH AS STEEL TOE BOOTS, GOGGLES ETC.

Physical Demands

Lift/carry - Up to and including 51-100 lb frequently.

Push/pull - Up to 41-100 lb frequently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to Chemicals – acetone, gasoline, purple powder, etching.

Exposure to outside elements and working in a non-climate controlled environment.
