VIRGINIA INDUSTRIES INC is Hiring a Material Handler Near Culpeper, VA

Summary

Operate powered industrial trucks and pallet jacks to move materials around the facility. These duties are to be performed within safety, quality, and production standards. This position is specifically for a shakeout operator/grinder.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification.

  • Safely move product load around the facility to ensure timely and complete delivery.
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, lifting devices, or other transport vehicles.
  • Move controls to drive gasoline- or electric-powered trucks and transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas.
  • Move levers and controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, to load, unload, transport, and stack material.
  • Position lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, and boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas.
  • Weigh materials or products, and record weight and other production data on tags or labels.

Knowledge:

  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Coordination - Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Monitoring - Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself to make improvements or take corrective action.

Abilities:

  • Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Multi-limb Coordination - The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Response Orientation - The ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals (lights, sounds, pictures). It includes the speed with which the correct response is started with the hand, foot, or other body part.
  • Far Vision - The ability to see details at a distance.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Rate Control - The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • Reaction Time - The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.

Standing, stooping and squatting can be expected along with repetitive bending as well as navigation of stairs, ramps, and uneven walking surfaces. Lifting up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to focus.
