The Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) is a self-identified person with a particular experience with a mental health and/or addiction condition who is in successful and ongoing recovery from mental health and/or addiction challenges.
The RPRS will operate with a team of professionals who deliver services to consumers of Virginia Family Services. In addition, the RPRS delivers peer support services with a rehabilitation and recovery focus, participating with a primary goal of connecting individuals to community-based recovery supports consistent with the treatment/recovery plan.

PREFERED: Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) Must be Registered with the Board of Counseling
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must have a VA valid driver's license.
Must be a current or former recipient of mental health and/or substance use disorder services.
Working knowledge of community resources, including social clubs and peer support activities.
Ability to identify potential crisis situations and convey this information to a supervisor in a timely and appropriate manner.
Must possess the ability to establish supportive, trusting relationships with persons with mental illness and substance use disorders and maintain respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment.
Proficient in written, oral, and digital communications, instant messaging, email, Zoom, etc.
Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Completes detailed written record of activities.
Attends training(s) as required and assigned by supervisor.
Maintains personal wellness.
Ability to fulfill and/or schedule activities and assigned duties that are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the clients we serve.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in Human Services plus two years of advocacy experience in a human service agency or health care facility.
OR
HS diploma or equivalency, and 4yrs. experience in a human service agency or health care facility.
