The Virginia Office of Education Economics (VOEE) housed within the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking a Data Operations Specialist to maintain and manage a data environment of ongoing work supporting the development and analysis of data sets to examine labor supply and demand, career pathways, skills, and other areas of interest related to understanding education and workforce. Created through legislation in 2021, VOEE is tasked with providing a unified, consistent source of data, analysis, and insights of talent, education, and labor market alignment. VOEE’s work seeks to inform policy and practice changes and lead to innovation throughout the Commonwealth to improve outcomes for students, workers, and industry. Job Overview:

The Data Operations Specialist will support and manage our data environment and infrastructure. This role involves working with Tableau Server, Snowflake data warehouse, DBT, and AWS. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of these systems and providing data solutions that align with VOEE’s mission and research goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain the Tableau Server, ensuring optimal performance and public accessibility to a suite of dashboard and data products located on www.voee.org

• Oversee the Snowflake data warehouse operations, including data integration, automations, storage, and retrieval processes
• Utilize DBT for data transformation and ensure data quality and consistency across platforms
• Administer and optimize AWS cloud services for efficient data operations
• Collaborate with and support the data team to identify and implement improvements in data processes and infrastructure in support of the VOEE mission
• Provide technical support and training to team members on data tools and systems as needed
• Work closely with the Director of Research to align data operations with organizational objectives and research initiatives
• Ensure data security and compliance with relevant data protection regulations and governance
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions
• Stay updated with the latest trends and relevant technologies in data operations and suggest innovative solutions 

Qualifications:

• 1-3 years’ experience in managing Tableau Server, Snowflake, DBT, and AWS or similar services
• Strong understanding of cloud computing, data warehousing, server administration, and ETL processes including sourcing data through Snowflake Marketplace or similar data provider platforms
• Comprehensive knowledge of SQL is required; knowledge of data science languages such as Python and R is strongly preferred
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
