Position Responsibilities:

Position Description:PostdoctoralFellowship at the intersection of basic and clinical sciences in the laboratoryof Jonathan Boyd, PhD. This fellowshipwill gain experience from multiple departments (Orthopaedics, Pharmacology andToxicology) within Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. This position is responsible for designing,organizing, and conducting highly specialized and advanced experiments usingestablished scientific protocols and procedures. The Postdoctoral Fellow willadvance funded inflammation research related to exposure to chemical agents andassist on other projects including research funded by the National Institutesof Health and the American Heart Association (AHA). In addition, the incumbentwill be responsible for reporting findings and publishing results in researchjournals, assuming general responsibility for scientific operations of thelaboratory and providing support and guidance to students and collaboratingscientists that include several federal laboratories, universities, andindustrial partners.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:Willhave experience in one or more of the following: animal research CITIcertification or equivalent (rodents), animal imaging (e.g., near infraredimaging, thermal imaging, positron emission tomography), immunoassays,plethysmography, experience analyzing and interpreting genomic, proteomic andmetabolomic data and models.
Designand implement research protocols; design safety procedures and adapt newprocedures, methods, or
instrumentationrelative to research procedures.
Overseein vivo sample research preparation, animal maintenance, and equipmentmaintenance; quality control analysis of reagents.
Collect,prepare and analyze data; keep a detailed notebook summarizing experiments andrecording research data; maintain computer database of research data; tabulateand display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscriptpreparation; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
Superviseother personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increasedefficiency; participate in training of students, residents, and volunteerworkers as needed.
Whilethis position is fully funded, it is expected that the ideal candidate willcontribute to grant writing and reporting as needed.
Assistwith ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment and with generalmaintenance of laboratory.
Performother duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

PhDin a basic or health science.
2-4years of relevant experience in a research environment.
