TheChemical and Life Science Engineering Department of the College of Engineeringseeks culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for the hourly LaboratoryResearch Associate position. Since its inception in 1996, the VirginiaCommonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative,real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of fivedifferent departments plus the Dean’s office, the College of Engineeringenrolls more than 1,900 undergraduate and 335 graduate students in severaldegree programs supported by over 600 full-time, part-time, and studentemployees. Position Responsibilities:

The Laboratory ResearchAssociate will be responsible for the day-to-day activities required to supportthe research goals of a research lab.

Specifically, dutiesinclude:

-Facilitate research in the laboratory by integratingdigital tools, including artificially enabled retrosynthetic tools
-Assist with the development of experimentalplans and synthetic strategies
-Consistently record experimental results incomprehensive laboratory notebook
-Perform monitoring and preventative maintenanceof laboratory equipment, specifically light scattering-based instrumentation
-Clean, set up, and store equipment
-Perform routine laboratory tests andexperimental procedures
-Assist research personnel with more complexexperiments and procedures
-Compile results of experiments and regularlyreport to supervisor
-Carry out other research-related duties asneeded
-Part-time, non-benefited position limited to 25hours per week
Required Qualifications:

-Previous experience working in a laboratory isrequired
-Must be detail-oriented and have goodobservation skills
-Should have a willingness to learn and usespecialized techniques
-Must communicate effectively
-Ability to meet deadlines and manage timeeffectively
-Familiarity with the research process andprinciples of research design required
-Excellent interpersonal, organizational, timemanagement and communication skills
-Ability to establish priorities and to handlemultiple tasks
-Excellent proficiency in written English andthe ability to present and articulate complex concepts orally
-Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite,particularly Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

-Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering,Biochemistry, or related field
-Experience with Python, synthetic chemistry,and rigorous data analysis
-Familiar with general lab procedures (e.g.,solution preparation, use of pumps and microscope, UV/vis and IR spectroscopy,chromatography)
