Chief Purpose of thisposition: The Department ofInternal Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Care isseeking an Oncologist - Clinical/Translational Investigator that will have arole in developing the Hematologic Malignancy Research Program at the MasseyComprehensive Cancer Center.This position will have a role in advancingthe clinical research mission and will be expected to work collaboratively withother members of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.
PositionResponsibilities:
Teaching | Trainsmedical students, residents and fellows in the lab and while in theclinic.Expected to actively participate in providing clinical researchopportunities to fellows.
Research | This positionwill be responsible for bringing the most innovative clinical trials inhematologic malignancies to the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and theregion utilizing intra and extramural partnerships.This position will beexpected to establish extramural partnerships with the ultimate goal ofoffering the most innovative drugs in hematologic malignancies to patients atthe Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center before they are standard of care. This position will be expected to develop, initiate, and manageinvestigator-initiated trials in collaboration with the Massey ComprehensiveCancer Center's laboratory investigators.You will be expected toparticipate in Massey's Clinical Trial Training Program, write 2 IITs by year 3and year 4, and apply for a career development award by year 4.Effortsto obtain funding for your research in areas of focus consistent with themission of the School of Medicine, Department, and Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter must be demonstrated.In addition, reasonable scholarlyactivities, such as publications, presentations at national meetings andparticipation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected, as well asactive participation as a scientific member of the Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter.
Service | It is expectedthat the person in this position will be active in decreasing health disparitiesin the community served by Massey/VCU.
Clinical | Attends onthe inpatient wards and consult service, and/or sees patients in the outpatientclinic with a focus on hematologic malignancies.
RequiredQualifications:

• Board certified or eligible in medical oncology or hematology
• Eligible for Virginia licensure
• Evidence of accomplishment/potential (e.g. - publications, trial PI) during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic career
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
