The Chief Polysomnographic Technologist works in the Center for Sleep Medicine under general supervision of the Director of Clinical Operations. This job provides administrative and technical direction to subordinate technologists and clerical staff in the Center. This job assists in planning, directing and coordinating center operations. The Technologist ensures optimum provision of patient care. In addition, manages nighttime operations. This job also interviews and recommends hiring selections, trains, schedules and disciplines subordinate staff under the guidance of the Director of Clinical Operations.Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:Current licensure with the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Polysomnographic Technologist Current Registered Polysomnographic Technologist Certification (RPSGT) Current AHA BLS Certification Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:Current licensure with the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Polysomnographic Technologist Current RPSGT Certification Current AHA BLS Certification Experience REQUIRED:Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in Sleep Medicine as a Polysomnographic Technologist with at least two years in a leadership role Previous work experience with polygraph electronics, electroencephalograms, electroocculargrams, electromyograms, modified electrocardiograms, respiratory-inductive plethismography, neuroanatomy and pathophysiology of sleep, and various sleep-disordered breathing anomalies Experience PREFERRED:Previous experience in the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and treatment with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and Bi-Level airway therapy Previous experience in academic healthcare setting Five or more years of clinical experience in Sleep Medicine as a Polysomnographic Technologist Previous Sleep Lab marketing experience Education/training REQUIRED: Associates Degree in Polysomnography from an accredited program Education/training PREFERRED: N/A Independent action(s) required:Establishes lab procedures based on ASET standards and in adherence to VCUHS policy and procedure. Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders. Organizes and plans work with input from the patient/family with specific outcomes and demonstrated use of sound clinical judgment and resources. Communicates clearly and professionally with physicians and patients to schedule evaluations and provides other pertinent information to internal customers. Uses pertinent technology applications - Compumedics. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):Organizes work, delegates and supervises others (polysomnographic techs and office staff) in carrying out assignments. Hires, directs, schedules, trains, evaluates and disciplines Polysomnographic Technical staff under the guidance of the Director of Clinical Operations. Oversees the daily operation of the Sleep Center. Trains and supervises nighttime technicians. Supervises daytime staff within the Center. Handles all schedules for the Center. Scores the sleep studies and performs daytime polysomnograms and MSLTs. Handles all ordering and maintains necessary equipment and submits payment request for supplies. Coordinates care and performs in-services to referring community and physicians. Reviews, implements and updates policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations. Additional position requirements:This position requires travel to the Sleep Center and throughout the referral area. Reliable transportation is required. Travel outside the region may be required from time to time for training, marketing or support activities.
