Viral Solutions is Hiring an Advanced Practice Provider in Correctional Medicine - Day Shift - Gwinnett County Detention Center Near Lawrenceville, GA

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Medical Assessment: Conduct thorough medical assessments of inmates, including physical examinations, review of medical histories, and evaluation of symptoms to diagnose and treat various health conditions. Performing simple procedures such as laceration repair and I&D is also needed.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans for inmates based on their medical conditions, taking into consideration the constraints of the correctional environment and available resources.
  • Medication Management: Prescribe medications as needed and ensure compliance with prescribed treatments, including monitoring for side effects and potential drug interactions. 
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the correctional facility and initiate appropriate lifesaving interventions until higher-level medical care is available.
  • Chronic Disease Management: Oversee the management of chronic medical conditions among inmates, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and HIV/AIDS, to promote disease control and prevent complications.
  • Mental Health Care: Collaborate with our mental health team of professionals to address the mental health needs of inmates to assure appropriate management of psychiatric conditions.
  • Preventative Care: Promote health education and preventive care measures to improve overall inmate health and reduce the risk of communicable diseases.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including but not limited to physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, physical therapists, and dentists to ensure a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting all patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with facility policies and legal requirements.
  • Safety and Security: Adhere to the security protocols and guidelines within the correctional facility to maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates.
  • Ethics and Professionalism: Uphold ethical standards and maintain professionalism in all interactions with inmates, colleagues, and facility staff.
  • Continuing Education: Stay updated with the latest developments in correctional medicine, attend training sessions, engage in continuous professional development to enhance medical knowledge and skills, and attend any necessary meetings.
