It is the responsibility of the Nursing Supervisor to provide leadership and act as a role model for all personnel in the planning and delivery of patient care. The Nursing Supervisor works with the nursing staff to plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care based upon the needs and responses of the patient. The Nursing Supervisor responds to the directive of the Nurse Manager regarding follow up and arranges with other departments and agencies to provide coordinated services to patients. Nursing Supervisors are usually scheduled for Day, Evening, Night, and Weekend shifts. The Nursing Supervisor ensures knowledge of nursing and facility policies and leads by example.
· Supports and promotes the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing.
· Ensures communication between shifts to promote continuity of patient care.
· Communicates with other disciplines to coordinate the nursing care plan.
· Evaluate/Update patient care plan.
· Do Rounds to ensure that patients are being cared for appropriately.
· Ensures that documentation for all newly admitted or re-admitted patients are completed timely as per policy.
· Ensures that Care Plans are current.
· Audit charts and processes.
· Report all changes to Nurse Manager, DNS/ADNS and on-coming shift Nursing Supervisor.
· Promotes good public relations.
· Assist with Infection Control Rounds and complete appropriate documentation. · Conduct/attend regularly scheduled nursing meetings for problem solving and information exchange
· Assist with medication receipt and return to Pharmacy
· Assist with scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing complement
· Performs any other job-related essential and non-essential duties as assigned.
