The Civil Service Commission of the Village of Tinley Park is accepting applications for entry level employment for the position of Patrol Officer A-2 with the Village of Tinley Park Police Department. The Village of Tinley Park is a vibrant, progressive community located in the fast-growing Interstate 80 corridor in southwest suburban Chicago. As the 14th-largest city in Metropolitan Chicago boasting a residential population of 56,000 residents and nearly 1,000 businesses, this exceptional community possesses everything from a fun and lively Downtown district to flourishing residential neighborhoods to thriving corporate, commercial and entertainment centers, all tied together under Tinley Park’s Life Amplified brand. The Tinley Park Police Department has more than 150 employees, including 91 full-time, sworn positions that are split into four (4) Police Operational Divisions: Administration, Patrol, Investigations, and Special Programs. The police department also is responsible for Crime Prevention, the Crime Free Rental Housing Program, National Night Out and the Citizen’s Police Academy. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The position of Patrol Officer A-2 is responsible for the enforcement of village and all applicable federal, state, county and municipal laws on an assigned shift. Work may include routine patrol, investigation, and traffic control duties in a car or on foot. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the shift sergeant, but the employee must exercise independent judgment in the field within the guidelines of established policies. An element of personal danger is involved. The employee is required to work in all weather conditions, including adverse or hazardous. Police work requires officers to be able to work shifts that provide 24 hour protection to the community. The employee should be physically able to spend long hours driving/patrolling in a squad car. Superiors review work through reports and personal inspection.Duties and Responsibilities Patrol the village to prevent crime, preserve public order and uphold the Constitution.Respond to citizen calls for service, complaints of crimes, fires, accidents, and other safety issues. Conduct investigations, gather evidence, obtain witnesses, and document same. Serve summonses, subpoenas, and other legal papers. Resolve problems that may be of a non-criminal nature. Interview persons with complaints and inquire and make proper disposition or direct them to proper authorities. Testify in court. Perform related work as required.

Obtain a copy of the 2024 Application Information Packet online from the Civil Service Commission.All applicants must have a valid P.O.W.E.R. card dated within 6 months of the test date at application or at the time of the written exam. Candidates are fully responsible for the cost of the P.O.W.E.R. test.All applicants must attend a mandatory orientation session on July 18 or July 19, 2024 at 6:00pm. Applicants that do not attend the mandatory session will not be allowed to sit for the written exam.All applicants must sit for the written exam on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 9:00am. This is a collectively bargained position under MAP, Tinley Park Chapter #192. This position will be compensated at the entry level pay rate of $38.31. This position schedule consists of forty (40) hours per week based upon four (4) day, ten (10) hour schedule.
