VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA is Hiring an Engineering Intern (Civil or Environmental) Near Tequesta, FL

Deadline: Open Until Filled.

Approx. Period: May - August 2024 (Average of 26 hours weekly)

$22.5 per hour

Candidates not enrolled in college at least to the end of calendar year 2023, are ineligible for Internship.

PROGRAM GOALS

The Village is currently accepting applications for a Civil or Environmental Engineering Intern who will receive on-the-job exposure and experience under direct or indirect supervision to learn to and perform a variety of duties. The individual selected may perform both routine duties and non-routine support duties depending on the nature of the area of work, intern’s background, school studies, Village/departmental needs, and assigned duties. Emphasis is placed on providing varied and meaningful learning experiences to the student, while at the same time providing work assistance to the Village. Assignment for the utilities intern will typically provide entry- or higher level technical engineering work performed in the field and in the office in connection with investigation, development, design, construction and maintenance of Village utilities related operational, engineering, customer service and/ or other projects as needed.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE Education and Experience

  • Candidates must be actively enrolled and attending an accredited college/university in the field of Civil or Environmental engineering.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with reviewing plan submittals for consistency with departmental and industry standards
  • Assists with reviewing plan submittals for consistency with departmental and industry standards
  • Assists in reviewing or conducting preliminary in-house designs of water and stormwater utilities infrastructure Assist with or conduct stormwater calculations, including impervious materials using GIS maps, county property appraiser information, or other
  • Assists with identifying new and existing utilities infrastructure from as-built drawings and/or working with field staff
  • Prepares construction progress charts for projects
  • Prepares preliminary engineering reports, environmental reports, permits, plans, and specifications
  • Interprets drawings, blueprints, survey reports, maps, aerial photography, soils reports, environmental reports and other topographical geologic data to plan projects
  • Provides recommendations for system mapping for the assigned division / department of the Village
  • Assists with technical guidance and may answer questions regarding design and construction activities
  • Performs basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters and electronic correspondence, interaction with the public and communication through telephone and meetings
  • Attends committee and staff meetings as assigned
  • Perform other related duties and assumes other responsibilities as necessary or as delegated

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May be required before or after hours and/or weekend hours for special events.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Working conditions will vary to include an air conditioned office, with regular field activities resulting in exposure to outdoor elements.
