Village of Horseheads is Hiring a Recreation Leader (FT) Near Horseheads, NY

Job Title: Recreation Leader
Rate of Pay: $31,000 - $34,000/annually, plus benefits
Location of Position: The Village of Horseheads
Hours of Work: 8:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Friday (evenings and weekends as required)
Closing Date: May 31, 2023
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and 100 hours of experience conducting recreational activitiesor
  • One year full-time experience in conducting recreational activities
  • Possession of a current CPR (Adult/Child) certification and possession of standard first-aid certification by the first day of employment
  • Ability to pass the Recreation Leader Civil Service Exam within one year of employment
Typical Work Activities:
  • Plan and implement recreational activities for children, teens, and adults, including sports, games, arts, and crafts
  • Design and lead activities that are age-appropriate, engaging, and safe based upon abilities and interests
  • Assist in the organization and conduct of special events
  • Monitor participants’ safety during activities and ensure all safety protocols are being followed
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are in proper working order and stored safely
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to participants
  • Keep records of activities and attendance
  • Encourage active participation, good sportsmanship, and positive interaction among participants
  • Make necessary arrangement for transportation, food, et cetera for planned excursions
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, participants, and supervisors
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
  • Good knowledge of the organization and conduct of recreational activities
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to hold interest of participants and make the events engaging
  • Knowledge of first aid techniques
  • Communication skills
