BACKGROUND
The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water.
The Village of Fox Lake is seeking interested applicants for the position of Parks Maintenance Supervisor for the Public Works Department. This position will be responsible for providing assistance to Village of Fox Lake’s Parks and Recreation Department and Streets Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties dose not exclude them if the work is similar, related of logical to the position.
1. Operates various types of equipment and, based on assignment, performs a variety of tasks in maintenance, operation, repair and construction.
2. Complete electrical work such as installation and repair of parking lot lighting, sidewalk lighting, and building electrical work.
3. Operate construction equipment in a safe manner such as front end loader, bobcat, backhoe, and five-yard dump trucks.
4. Operates a wide variety of equipment and vehicles of various classifications as qualified and assigned including dump trucks, tractors, vacuum sewer cleaning machines, mowers, loaders, generators, chipper, pumps, crack sealer, backhoe and other equipment; operates various hand and power tools.
5. Performs snow and ice control duties, drives dump truck with snow plow and salt spreader, and assists in emergencies such as flood and wind or rain storms.
6. Performs various semi-skilled building maintenance, repairs and construction tasks including painting, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and electrical work.
7. Cleans, sweeps, washes and performs maintenance and repair tasks in public buildings and facilities.
8. Performs landscaping activities, including mowing grass, seeding, fertilizing, sweeping, pesticide application, raking grounds, planting and trimming trees and shrubs, and general gardening; performs landscaping repairs to restore and replenish topsoil; rakes, grades and seeds the area as required.
9. Performs facility, park and landscape maintenance, including trash removal and trashcan installation and maintenance, tree planting, pruning and removal, sign installation and maintenance, and path, sidewalk and parking lot maintenance.
10. Cleans and makes minor repairs to tools and equipment, including lubricating equipment and sharpening tools.
11. Completes beach cleaning, testing, raking, beach activity and equipment setup. Responsible for proper beach signage for regulatory requirements.
12. Must work with the general public in a friendly and professional manner.
13. Prepares, preps, set up and take down of Village events, parades, and celebrations.
14. Completes regular refuse removal and restroom cleaning,

15. Complies with all safety procedures and policies of the Village.
16. Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this role will have a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field, with a minimum of five (5) years related experience including supervision of full-time staff. Experience in operating a large-scale recreation complex, outdoor facilities, racquet sports programming, racquet sports instruction, and/or athletic program experience is preferred. Ability to apply education, training, and work experience to improve performance of organization. Related professional certification preferred. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License. Must have current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Must have previous experience working with Recreation software and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Must be a Certified Playground Safety Inspector, or able to get certification within six (6) months of hire.
Possession of a valid Class “B” or higher Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is preferred.
This position may require possession of a State of Illinois Pesticide Public Applicator’s License and Arborist Certification. A thorough background investigation, including personal and professional references and criminal background will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. Candidates must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug/alcohol screen following a conditional offer of employment.
