Vilda is a non-profit business in San Rafael, CA. Our goal is to Connect children with nature through fun and engaging all outdoor home school, after-school, and summer camp programs incorporating hiking and exploration, play, stories, nature based crafts, and learning meaningful wilderness and naturalist skills.

WHAT DO ASSISTANTS DO?

Assistants help support instructors in leading nature connection education in groups of about 10-12 children, bringing up the rear in hikes to make sure everyone stays together, helping the children have fun and be safe, leading games, crafts, and storytelling, and mentoring the children in nature connection. At this camp in China Camp you will also help supervise beach time at the bay and kayaking. This position runs M-F 8:15-3:45pm mid June through mid August with an option to continue through the following school year for qualified individuals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience working with children and or significant experience in naturalist knowledge and wilderness skills
• A strong interest in working with children outdoors
• A strong interest and commitment to expanding naturalist and wilderness skills
• Responsible, timely, and with good follow-through
• Great communication skills and ability to respond to emails weekly and texts each work day
• Enjoy working with a team of people

OPTIONAL BUT AWESOME:

• Some training in the Jon Young 8 Shields lineage, Tom Brown kids programs or other similar
• Currently based in the North Bay with intentions to stay in the area
• Some life guard experience and kayaking skills
• Current first aid and CPR

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week

Schedule:

• Afternoon shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
