The Cardiac Telemetry/Medical Stroke Unit also known as 6A is a 24 bed, all private room unit that treats the adult population. This unit treats cardiac telemetry (~50%), neuro, stroke and general medical patients. Recent accomplishments include becoming a Certified Primary Stroke Center by the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association and an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. What makes this team unique is that they provide a higher level of care since they are telemetry class 1 certified nurses. VHC Health is certified as a Primary Stroke Center through the Joint Commission, with 6A being the designated Stroke Unit. All nurses are required to attain/maintain their NIH stroke certification with the opportunity to become part of the Code Stroke Team after a minimum of 1 year experience on the unit.

Qualifications:

• RN Licensure with Reciprocity in the state of Virginia
• BLS for the Healthcare Provider CPR
• ACLS Certification
• Med/Surg experience with emphasis on care of the patient with CVA and alteration in neurological function preferred, training offered for motivated New Graduate Nurses
• NIHSS certification within 90 days of hire

• Demonstrates knowledge and technical skills to perform all duties required to care for patients.
