VHB is Hiring a Transportation Planner Near Orlando, FL

Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Public Transportation Planner to join our team in Orlando, FL.

In this position, you can expect to support transit agencies and health and human service organizations maintaining eligibility for federal funding to provide transportation services. In this role, you will help agencies develop competitive grant applications and help clients prioritize projects for funding. This position entails office-related and fieldwork in the Central Florida area within a vibrant and expanding team.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing project proposals and transit project implementation to ensure compliance with state and federal mandates
  • Documenting all phases of a transit project oversight process
  • Monitoring of project milestones and progress
  • Facilitating and coordinating meetings with public partners and preparing detailed meeting notes
  • Conducting field work to inspect federal and state-funded transportation assets throughout Central Florida and beyond
  • Supporting the completion of public transit plans, studies, and analyses
  • Researching best practices and advising transit stakeholders in decision-making processes
  • Aiding in the development and implementation of transit management/oversight procedures and training programs
  • Preparing technical reports and memos in close collaboration with VHB staff
  • Drafting correspondence on behalf of the client
  • Interfacing with clients on a daily basis through virtual and/or in-person meetings
  • Potential in-house role at public sector clients’ offices
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical presentations and materials to support information meetings (in-person and virtual)
  • Monitors industry changes and requirements, policies, procedures, and legislation. Interprets and applies applicable state, county and local codes, ordinances, and regulations. Researches, analyzes, and determines potential impact of proposed legislation or policy issues. Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
  • Reviews and ensures proposed project applications and projects comply with state and federal mandates. Conducts risk assessments of potential and current awardees of public funds to assess fiscal and managerial capacity.
  • Inspects federally funded assets, as necessary.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and time management
  • Intermediate to Advanced working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Ability to read and interpret federal and state terminology
  • Ability to take on new tasks and adapt to different work assignments and personalities
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related area field
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related professional planning and/or compliance experience
  • 3 years of planning and compliance experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of Florida’s coordinated transportation system, agencies, and their roles and functions preferred
