Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Raleigh, NC team is looking for a talented transportation and community planner to join our team as a project manager! This is an exciting opportunity to work on a dynamic team, alongside our various integrated services to deliver meaningful studies, plans, and projects to communities across our North Carolina footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts planning studies to include feasibility and corridor level studies
  • Conducts complex project-level needs assessments.
  • Evaluates sites and project areas relative to zoning, environmental constraints, and other factors
  • Oversees development of short-range and long-range local and statewide plans and projects
  • Prepares planning documents and applications. Oversees the gathering, compiling, and analysis of data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use. Researches and interprets comprehensive policy plans, zoning, and land use regulations. Prepares written technical planning documents, applications, justification statements, and reports in conformance with codes, plans, and regulations
  • Consults, coordinates and, communicates with regulatory agencies, clients, and internal and external project team members to advance projects in a timely manner.
  • Leads public outreach efforts. Prepares and delivers technical presentations for meetings and other informational materials for the public. Prepares, coordinates, facilitates, attends, and documents public involvement and consensus-building meetings, presentations, and workshops. Schedules and conducts meetings with advisory boards and elected officials. Presents reports and other findings to team members, planning and zoning board, and council. Serves as a liaison to such committees
  • Represents VHB at conferences, seminars, and industry organizations and events.
  • Maintains active membership in appropriate professional organizations and societies
  • Participates in business development efforts, including planning strategy for proposals and contracts

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Broad knowledge of principles and practices of planning
  • Broad knowledge of linkages between transportation and land use as well as innovative planning initiatives in the industry.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Competent in project and client management and collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.

Qualifications

  • 8-11 years of planning, consulting, and compliance experience
  • BA in Planning or related area of study relevant to specialization
  • Master’s degree a plus
  • Professional planning certification preferred (i.e., American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure – Envision (ENV SP) certification.
