ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager | New York, NY | Newark, NJ | Hybrid

VHB is seeking a Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager to work in our growing Northeast market. This role will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and designers in the development of studies, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of rail and transit infrastructure projects, including conceptual, preliminary, and final design involving light rail transit, bus rapid transit, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail, and freight rail improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple, simultaneous efforts including projects of various topics and complexity
• Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules and budgets
• Lead development of project deliverables and provide quality control
• Work directly with client project manager and maintain a good relationship
• Manage financial progress through timely submittal of invoices and progress reports and initiation of change orders for out-of-scope services
• Prepare technical reports and analyses
• Manage multidisciplinary teams
• Take an active role in business development and identify new project opportunities
• Represent VHB at regional conferences, seminars, and industry events
• Manage and prepare technical and cost proposals
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations
• Assist in the development of business and marketing plans
• Take an active role in the development and mentoring of the Transit & Rail group staff
• Work to improve the VHB Transit & Rail brand and to achieve industry excellence and consistency

Skills & Abilities

• Proven ability to coordinate with interdisciplinary teams such as Planning, Architecture, Environmental, Structural, Civil, Rail, and Traffic Engineering
• Strong understanding of transit and rail infrastructure and multi-discipline system integration
• Technical experience in multiple transit and rail design disciplines (track, rail systems, grade crossings, stations structures, transit facilities, route design, right-of-way, clearances)
• Experience in understanding NEPA and public perception of transit and rail project impacts to service availability and quality
• The candidate must possess a focus and understanding on transit and rail operations and working / technical knowledge of rail systems (track, signal, power, OCS, communications, right-of-way, structures, clearances), including phasing/staging of designs for construction while maintaining transit and rail operations for the client
• Experience with MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Railroad, New Jersey Transit, PANY&NJ PATH, and Amtrak strongly preferred
• Experience with bus operations and bus rapid transit preferred, including bus maintenance facilities
• Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills and analytical skills
• Strong public speaking and business development skills, market connected in the NYC metropolitan area preferred
• Excellent project management skills
• Strong capability in use of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Capability in the use of project management applications such as MS Project or Primavera

Minimum Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering or related field
• 8-11 years of progressive technical experience in transit and rail planning/engineering/program management and implementation of transit and rail projects required
• 11-15 years experience preferred
• NY PE license required and NJ PE license preferred and/or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Minimum of 3 years as a Project Manager
• Proven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $130,000-195,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
