Title: Veterans Services of the Carolinas – Education Specialist FOX Position Summary:

The Education Specialist is tasked with coordinating, and administering VSC’s staff development, training and continuing education, as well as educate the community on suicide prevention. This position will be responsible for training all of the mental health and suicide prevention trainings for Case Managers, Care Coordinators, Intake Coordinators, and Peer Support Specialists with all VSC programs; FOX, SSVF, HVRP, NCServes, and HOPE. Additionally this staff person will be responsible for the coordinating and facilitation of all the various trainings that VSC currently administers to our community partners. This specifically pertains to Suicide prevention to include the training of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale C-SSRS. This positon(s) are strategically based in North Carolina in order to provide coverage statewide. The Education Specialist and will report to the Clinical Director and VSC Training Coordinator.

Position Type:

Classification – Full-time salaried position with flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

FLSA Classification – Exempt Paygrade level – Professional

Duties / Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement training plans and curriculums addressing mental health and suicide prevention.

· Work in collaboration with NCServes in order to successfully utilize the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale C-SSRS.

· The Education Specialist will also schedule and facilitate all other associated trainings to include but are not limited to: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), and Critical Time Intervention (CTI).

· Ensures all training curriculums are in compliance with grant program guidelines and internal policies and procedures of governing body.

· Tracks and reports trainings with: numbered trained, location, and modality.

· Identifies problem areas, and works in collaboration with Training Coordinator to address the deficiencies of staff or challenges within each local community.

· Utilize the online training platform LMS in order to supplement in person staff training across 100 counties.

· Attends state and federal trainings on suicide prevention programs to ensure training curriculum remains accurate and incorporates material in applicable and timely fashion.

· Communicates gaps and trends to Training Coordinator and Clinical Director, and participates in VSC leadership team meetings.

· Comprehensively understands all VSC programs and eligibility criteria of each program.

· Works with Training Coordinator to review program effectiveness and makes recommendations for change as needed.

· Coordinates and monitors all aspects of training and maintains training log.

· Participates in all appropriate staff, supervision, and training meetings.

· Assumes other duties as assigned by Senior Management.

Skills / Competencies:

· Experience working in a training capacity, developing, and implementing education curriculums.

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Must be familiar with the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale C-SSRS.

· Must have experience in facilitating material in a training environment.

· Computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.

· Must have knowledge of both VA services and VSC programs, understand service delivery systems, community resource development, be well organized, a self-starter, and able to work as a member of a team.

· Must possess a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record; ability to travel regularly within North Carolina.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Human Services related field, or equivalent education/experience.

· Must have certifications or be willing to obtain certifications on suicide prevention training curriculums within 30 days of hire.

Relationships / Working Environment:

· Physical Demands: Must be ambulatory; must be able to operate a vehicle; must have visual/hearing acuity. Must be able to write legibly. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to write and use a computer and other typical office equipment on a regular basis. Must possess dexterity, stand, sit, walk, lift and carry twenty pounds for short distances.

· Mental Demands: Must have verbal ability; must be able to comprehend instructions; comprehend/ interpret charts, diagrams, and possess inductive and deductive reasoning.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
