Housing Program Support Specialist

Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Housing Program Support Specialist to join our team and support our SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) program. This individual will be responsible for conducting outreach, maintaining housing lists, and building relationships with housing providers. This is a crucial position within our organization as you will be responsible for ensuring our veteran clients have access to stable, safe, and affordable housing options.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct outreach efforts to identify potential veteran clients who may benefit from the SSVF program

- Conduct housing inspections to ensure our clients are placed in safe and suitable housing

- Build and maintain relationships with housing providers to expand our housing options for veteran clients

- Attend and actively participate in regional housing coalitions and associated meetings

- Perform monthly follow-ups with assigned housing program participants to assess their progress and document their outcomes

- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all client interactions and program activities

- Assist with other program-related tasks and support staff as needed

Qualifications:

- High school diploma/GED, Bachelor's degree preferred

- A minimum of 2 years of experience in social services, community outreach or supportive housing - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Knowledge and understanding of veteran homelessness, housing, and mental health issues

- Ability to effectively navigate and collaborate with various community and housing resources

- Strong organizational and time-management skills

- Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data entry experience

- Must have a valid NYS driver's license and reliable transportation

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, with the potential to move to a 4-day / 36-hour work week with no reduction in pay after reaching Tier 3 – which should take an average of one to one and a half years. Working hours are generally Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend events or meetings. This position also requires local travel to attend meetings, outreach events, and housing inspections. Work is typically performed in an office setting with frequent interactions with clients, colleagues, and community partners.
