Veterans Health Administration is Hiring a Physician-Women's Health Primary Care/Women's Health Medical Director Near Clarksburg, WV

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
    [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
    (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
    Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as 'Physician Resident Providers' (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a 'scope of practice' that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred Experience: Preferred but not required 3 plus years experience in Women's Health 3 plus years management.

Physical Requirements: Lifting and carrying (up to 45 lbs.); pushing or pulling (1 hour); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 4 hours); standing (up to 4 hours); repeated bending (up to 2 hours); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13' to 16' to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye; hearing (aid permitted); clear speech; mental and emotional stability.

The WHMD provides clinical expertise in the area of women's health care. The WHMD promotes best practices and functions as the clinical subject matter expert for women's health issues in the health care system. Provides medical services to Veterans on an outpatient basis in the primary care setting. Disease processes include, but are not limited to diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health disorders, etc., with a major focus on preventive medicine. Lead the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) approach in the delivery of care, which emphasizes a team-based approach to healthcare. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record.

Major Duties:
  • Performs as the clinical leader for comprehensive women's health care at the VA medical facility Administrative Parent (Health Care System).
  • Participates in key clinical governance committees at the VA medical facility Administrative Parent (Health Care System).
  • Collaborates with the WVPM and facility leadership to determine the appropriate model of care for comprehensive women's health care at all sites of care at the health care system, including the main VA medical facility and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC).
  • Collaborates with primary care leadership and the WVPM to assure that WH- PCPs are assigned at all sites of care.
  • Collaborates with primary care leadership at all sites of care in the VA medical facility Administrative Parent (Health Care System) to ensure that all women Veterans are offered assignment to WH-PCPs in the VA medical facility and CBOCs.
  • The WHMD is a leader for implementation of Women's Health Patient Aligned Care Team (WH-PACT) at the VA medical facility Administrative Parent (Health Care system).
  • Participates as a voting member in WH-PACT implementation leadership team meetings to ensure the needs of women Veterans are met within WH-PACTs.
  • The WHMD collaborates with primary care Primary Care Management Module (PCMM)coordinator to ensure that WH-PACT teams are assigned appropriately in PCMM at all sites of care within the health care system including the medical center and all CBOCs.
  • The WHMD collaborates with gynecology services to ensure appropriate services for women Veterans.
The Women's Health Medical Director is responsible for:
  • Responsible for the management and direct patient care for the Women's Health PACT panel
  • Working closely with the WVPM, forming the foundation of the women's healthcare team.
  • Participates as a member of the facility Women Veteran's Advisory Committee
  • Provide on-going collaborative support to the facility WVPM to ensure implementation of national and VISN initiatives
  • Serving as a clinical leader for women's health.
  • Provides clinical expertise in the area of women's health care - as evidenced by clinical role in facility (i.e.. PCP in women's health; preceptor for Residents, Medical Students)
  • Promotes sharing best practices in the local facility women's center/clinic environment.
  • Working in collaboration with Primary Care Leadership and participates in all Primary Care Leadership meetings at the facility level.
  • Actively participates in PACT implementation teams to ensure the needs of women veterans are met in a comprehensive manner
  • Provides support and guidance to all facility WH-PCPs as relates to provision of comprehensive gender specific primary care for women
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 pm., subject to change, depending on the needs of the service.
