Veterans Health Administration is Hiring a Physical Therapist Clinical Specialist (Women's Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation) Near Stockton, CA

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications:

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education and experience. The individual must meet at least one of the requirements below:
    • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist.
    • Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist.
    • Doctorate degree in physical therapy.
  • Foreign Graduates. Graduates of foreign physical therapy programs meet the requirements in subparagraph 3b if they have a full unrestricted and current license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy (FCCPT) is a non-profit organization created to assist the United States (U.S.) Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) and U.S. state licensing authorities by evaluating the credentials of Foreign Educated Physical Therapists (FEPTs) who wish to immigrate and work in the U.S.
  • Licensure. Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, this part.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations:

GS- 13 Physical Therapist (Clinical Specialist)
Experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level and one of the following:
  • 1. Evidence of a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice directly in the specialty area. This time must be between the past two and five years; or
  • 2. Board Certification in the specialty area recognized by the ABPTS; or
  • 3. Completion of a fellowship program; or
  • 4. An additional advanced degree in a related field.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the all following KSAs.

1. Advanced knowledge and expert skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in a specialized treatment area of physical therapy.
2. Ability to serve as a consultant and subject matter expert for health care providers regarding the delivery of care within a specialized content area of physical therapy.
3. Ability to teach and mentor medical center staff in a specialized content area of physical therapy.
4. Ability to guide the work of a multi-disciplinary team in a specialized content area of physical therapy.
5. Advanced knowledge and expert skill to perform and interpret specialized procedures and tests in evaluating the treatment outcomes in the assigned specialty content area.

Preferred Experience: one year of post degree progressively complex experience at Outpatient setting with experience and formal training in Women's Health/Pelvic Physical Therapy.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-13.

Physical Requirements: Given the probability of patient treatment, the work requires above-average agility and dexterity, heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; use of fingers, both hands required; reaching above shoulder; walking (8 hours); standing (8 hours); both legs required (1 prosthetic); far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted), and mental and emotional stability.

Responsibilities:

This position is in the Physical Therapy (PT) Section within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) of the VA Northern California HealthCare System (VA NCHCS).

The PT Women's Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist is responsible for the examination and treatment of patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. The incumbent will provide evaluation and management of patients of all genders having complex medical conditions, including, but not limited to, urinary/fecal incontinence, dyspareunia, vaginismus, vulvodynia, pelvic organ prolapse, interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome, prostatitis, defecation disorders, management of IBS/IBD, levator ani syndrome, coccydynia, chronic pelvic pain, pudendal neuralgia, pre- and post-prostatectomy, peripartum and post-partum rehab.

This clinical specialist markets and receives direct consults for Women's Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation services from Primary care, Specialty Clinics, PM&RS as well as associated VA partners. The incumbent provides consultative services to staff from other VA facilities in the VISN. The incumbent serves as liaison to the Women's Health Program for Physical Therapy specifically and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service generally.

The PT provides in-service and clinical training programs in capacity as Women's Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist.

The PT Women's Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist conducts comprehensive patient examinations and selects the appropriate outcome measures to identify rehabilitation problems and establish treatment goals utilizing the most recent evidence based Physical Therapy practice.

The PT Women's Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist performs examination, treatment planning and intervention and within the outpatient physical therapy department of VANCHCS.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
