Veterans Health Administration is Hiring a Lead Medical Supply Technician - Sterile Processing Near Phoenix, AZ

Summary

The Phoenix VA Health Care System is recruiting for Lead Medical Supply Technologist (Sterile Processing), in the Sterile Processing Service line.

The position is located at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, under the supervision of the Assistant Chief, Sterile Processing Service.

The Lead Medical Supply Technician is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and inspection of Reusable Medical Devices.

Duties

The VA Phoenix Health Care System is one of the leading health care systems serving Veterans in the VA Desert Pacific Network.

We're an innovative care center within the Veterans Integrated Service Network 22 (VISN 22). VISN 22 includes medical centers and clinics in Arizona, Southern California, and New Mexico.

The Lead Medical Supply Technician (MST) possesses the knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Devices (RMD). The Lead MST required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which document the processes, and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and preparation of RMD.

The Lead MST will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RMD. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Assembles basic sets and surgical trays for procedures at the Phoenix VA Health Care System.

Instructs staff on the correct procedures and protocols for completing assignments.

Distributes and prioritizes workload among employees in accordance with established workflow, and / or job specializations.

Revises work schedules to meet anticipated, and unanticipated changes in the workload.

Monitors and reports on the status of work.

Ensures SOPs and Sterile Processing Services mandates are followed during the performance of workflow.

Reviews work in progress, or spot checks work to ensure completed work meets supervisors' instructions on such things as work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.

Assesses the quality and quantity of work by reviewing the cleaning, reprocessing, and distribution of technical medical equipment, material, and instrumentation.

Provides information to management officials concerning performance issues, assignment changes and task completion.

Instructs employees on work-related activities, policies, procedures and goals.

Resolves conflicts and problems dealing with the customers, and staff constructively, and appropriately.

Inspects packages for indications of proper sterilization, assembles basic sets, and trays used throughout the medical center, including those used in the operating room.

Work Schedule : Tours include Monday - Friday : 600am-230pm, 8am-430pm, 9am-530pm,330pm,12am, 9pm-530am; on Saturday - Sunday : 7am-330pm. On-Call. Holidays.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus) : May be available for highly qualified candidate at service discretion.

Pay : Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off : 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Parental Leave : After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy : After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66 .

Retirement : Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance : Federal health / vision / dental / term life / long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
