Job Description

The Comparative Medicine Research Associate performs a variety of well-defined support functions and participates in research activities, as outlined by their supervisor, such as rodent in vivo studies, including dosing, sampling, functional/behavioral testing, and tissue harvesting. The Research Associate may be responsible for one or more specific lab or Group/Department service functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates in planning of experiments and may perform some experiments with limited supervision demonstrating responsible follow-up
• Conducts experiments following established methodology and procedures with minimal supervision
• Performs initial analysis of experimental data and interprets immediate experimental outcomes and/or conclusions within established protocols
• “Troubleshoots” routine technical problems within standard procedures and performs routine equipment maintenance
• May be expected to present at internal Group research meeting
• Follows procedures from the literature, adapting them as necessary with oversight
• Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:

• REQUIRED: Demonstrates reliable technical skills in a focused number of methodological areas of rodent in vivo studies, including dosing, sampling, functional/behavioral testing, and tissue harvesting
• Exhibits reliable ability to interpret routine, uncomplicated data
• Applies technical knowledge to optimize some commonplace experimental procedures
• Displays emerging ability to modify experimental designs and protocols to enable experimental and/or methodological improvement
• Ability to present results in both oral and written reports

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) in biological sciences and 1-4 years of relevant employment experience
• 1-4 years of experience in life sciences or academia

Pay Range

$35-$38/HR
