Performs a full range of carpentry/woodworking skills and techniques in repairing, constructing, altering, and maintaining wood/wood substitute, aluminum and plastic components of wood projects where accuracy, spacing, and fit are essential, and structural soundness, and appearance are important.

Designs, plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation.

Selects lumber, material and supplies required to complete assigned work and provide cost estimates for projects.

Works from drawings, sketches, blueprints, and knowledge of construction method techniques.

Measures and cuts materials to the required length and dimensions.

Installs studs, plates, braces, joints, panels, and insulating materials.

Designs, fabricates and installs frames.

Ensure installed components are level and accurately aligned with other parts.

Operate forklift to transport supplies/materials to work sites on station.

Operates varies saws, power tools, and other carpentry equipment.

Provides advice and training as required.

Utilizes all the required PPE when performing assigned tasks.

Complies with Foreign Object Damager (FOD), Hazardous Waste, and Tool Control Programs.

Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.

Works with other shops on projects, uses materials other than wood (plastic / aluminum) applies paints and varnish as needed.

Performs other duties as required.

Must be knowledgeable in shop mathematics and possess the skills to compute complex and exact projects with features such as arcs, tangents, and circles. Must have the ability to read, interpret, and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, and sketches of all complexity. Must have the knowledge of the basic components of a structure and understand the purpose of the components as they relate to the complete structure to ensure strength, support and fit of assemblies. Must be skilled in the use of a variety of hand and power shop tools of the carpentry trade to include set up and adjustment of tools to accomplish all tasks. Must be knowledgeable of safety measures when using tools and must possess the skill to maintain the tools to include sharpening saw blades, tools, and accessories. Must be trained in the proper use of PPE in the performance of these tasks.

Must be able to meet any Government company licensing/qualification requirements for the position. Must be able to obtain the level of Industrial Security Clearance required by the Government.

Must independently lift large bulky and hard to grasp objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier objects with the assistance of other workers. May work in tight or cramped places in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time. Works while standing, sitting, or kneeling requiring reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand tool and powered tools. Uses ladders to climb up and down and work from scaffolding. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to head and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Noise hazards from hammers, saws and other power shop tools is frequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Injuries may occur in lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment; cuts and bruises in suing hand tools and equipment; more serious injuries in operating power tools and in falls from adders and scaffolds. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.
