PURPOSE:

The Custodian provides for the care, cleaning, and maintenance of Velda Rose United Methodist Church's buildings, furniture, fixtures and grounds.

SUPERVISOR:

The Custodian reports directly to the facilities manager for job assignments and Church policy.

Essential Functions:

1) Adheres to established procedures to provide a safe working environment including aligning with OSHA, state/local, and federal regulations.

2) Maintains a clean and orderly environment to protect the safety and health of others.

3) Accurately maintains and cleans housekeeping equipment.

4) Cleans, disinfects, and replenishes restrooms.

5) Empties trash and cleans trash containers.

6) Cleans glass, dust, wipes and cleans furniture and fixtures.

7) Requisitions and stocks cleaning supplies for assigned areas.

8) Follows procedures for storage and disposal of trash and transports it to designated

areas.

9) Reports maintenance concerns to facilities manager.

10) Accurately maintains parking lots, yard and planted areas, and columbarium

11) Prepare for Church and special services, such as funerals, weddings, memorials, meetings, for pastors or groups. Unlocking and locking of building, ensuring AC or heat are set properly.

12) May work weekends per Supervisor's request.

13) Complete time sheets accurately.

Additional Functions:

1) Move/traverse: The person must be able to walk about the campus from building to building and area to area. They must be able to position themselves for various tasks. (stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, or crawling)

2) Operation/traverse: The person must be able to move equipment around weighing 40/50 pounds. Must be able to recognize and properly use hand tools and small electrical/gas powered tools and where they are properly stored. Must be able to climb a ladder/stairs to service lights and ceiling fans, roof AC filters, and other roof repairs.

3) Communicate/identify: The person will be in contact with other people of the church and must act with professionalism and dignity to all. Must maintain radio/phone contact with the church office/supervisor during working hours. Identify unauthorized or suspicious activity on campus and report to office/supervisor immediately.

4) Exposure: The person will be working inside buildings and outside on the campus in hot/ cold or inclement weather.

PERFORMANCE: Velda Rose United Methodist Church is a non-smoking work place. The church does random drug and alcohol testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1) High School education or equivalent.

2) Previous custodial experience preferred.

3) Able to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

4) Ability to read and follow written instructions on Material Safety Data Sheets and manufacturer's instructions for product use.

5) Maintains friendly, efficient, positive guest service demeanor towards guests, clients, and co-workers.

6) Valid driver’s license -- must pass a background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
