Vecinos Inc. is Hiring a Behavioral Health Director Near Cullowhee, NC

Position: Behavioral Health Director

Location: Cullowhee, Franklin, and outreach in the 9 western NC counties

Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 with generous benefits and paid time off

Hours: 30-40 hours per week, flexible around patient/provider needs

Classification: Exempt, Permanent, Full-time

Organization Description: Vecinos is a non-profit, 501(c)3 Free Clinic that provides bilingual integrated primary and mental health care, mobile clinic services, health education, and case management to uninsured, low-income adults in the far-western NC counties.

Mission: Our mission is to provide equitable, culturally centered healthcare and wellness services with a focus on Latinx and farmworker communities.

Purpose: The Behavioral Health Director is a fully licensed therapist who works closely with the leadership team to oversee integrated clinical and mental health services, making strategic and effective decisions for the organization and clinic.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Development

  • Develop, manage, and enact strategic behavioral health operational plans that maximize limited organizational resources, including integrated care models, behavioral health and substance use programs
  • Observe, plan, and advocate at the organizational, local, state, and federal levels as needed for the necessary resources to support behavioral health services in a free clinic, working with funders to ensure clear communication
  • Seek and develop community collaborations and partnerships that promote the mission, vision, and values of Vecinos and that support mental health and wellness efforts in the region
  • Assist the leadership team with organizational strategic initiatives
  • Serve as the Chair for the Mental Health Advisory Committee and a member of the Quality Improvement team
  • Create and ensure compliance with behavioral health policies and procedures

Administration

  • Direct program and operational development, including community needs assessments, literature review, and research and implementation of evidence-based best practices
  • Oversee and complete required performance tracking and data reporting for grants and contracts
  • Develop and manage a programmatic budget, including authorizing transactions and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assist in developing and achieving attainable, ambitious clinical measures that promote patient health and wellness in line with grant applications

Team Management

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure high quality, culturally centered, integrated health care services
  • Manage and oversee the Behavioral Health Department, including personnel, team development, tasks, and staffing decisions
  • Lead the behavioral health team in development and growth, including position development, individual and team performance and management, and onboarding of staff and interns
  • Precept and supervise behavioral health professionals and new graduates on staff
  • Assist with direct psychotherapy and behavioral health services as needed in all Vecinos service areas (outpatient clinic, mobile clinic, community outreach, and telehealth)
  • Along with fellow leadership staff, establish staff training and professional development requirements and metrics, ensuring behavioral health support for patients at all entry points of the organization

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or relevant field
  • Licensed as a behavioral health therapist in North Carolina; maintain licensure and credential requirements for the state of North Carolina
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a behavioral health provider in an outpatient setting or other relevant experience
  • Previous experience in team leadership and employee supervision
  • Advanced English/Spanish fluency with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work effectively as a team member and work closely with behavioral health staff, nurses, physicians, outreach staff, and other partners
  • Cultural sensitivity, a caring and confident demeanor, flexibility, dependability, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high energy-level
  • Willingness to work in a nontraditional/non-clinical setting, a professional attitude
  • Desire to serve uninsured/underserved populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced trainings/certifications: Grief/Loss, Substance Use Counseling/LCAS, EMDR
  • Native or near-native English/Spanish fluency
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience
  • LCSW/LPC Supervisor eligible
  • Board certification in Clinical Supervision
  • Experience working with the under and uninsured population of WNC
  • Working knowledge of farmworker-specific mental health issues
