About us

VDL Industries Gainesville LLC is company number 99 in the VDL Groep and the first manufacturing facility in the U.S. Operations are from a state-of-the-art, 150,000-square-foot facility located in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The VDL Industries facility consists of the following work centers: laser cutting, metal forming, welding (MIG/TIG), electronic assembly/general assembly, sawing, drilling, shipping, storage opportunities, and Quality Control. VDL Industries utilizes a dedicated area for stainless steel welding and assembly operations.

Job Summary

The CNC Machinists program, run, and monitor computer-numeric-controlled machines, which are used to make metal tools and parts. They ensure that the machines are operating correctly and that pieces are cut to perfection. They also perform maintenance on the machines and replace dull or aged parts as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials and Orthographic drawings.
  • Takes inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available, anticipated stock, and placing orders.
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points.
  • Sets up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three – and four–jaw chucks, tools, and attachments.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings and specs
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample work pieces.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing knurling and thread chasing operations.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • All employees are responsible for reporting environmental risks or hazards in the workplace.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to operate CNC mills, lathes
  • Great computer and technical skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Strong team player
  • Must be self-motivated.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
  • 5 Years of experience operating CNC mills and lathes in a production environment preferred
  • Vocational or technical training in CNC machining or a related field preferred
  • Certifications from recognized industry institutions, such as the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) or ACNC can be advantageous

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must have agility to bend, push, pull, finger and pick up materials used
