VCUHSA VCU Health System Authority is Hiring a Remote Patient Transport Tech 1

The Peri-Surgical Unit (PSU) consists of 26 patient care rooms that are able to provide preoperative, phase-II postoperative, and 23-hour observational care for patient populations ranging from infant to geriatric and serves more than 15 different surgical specialties and services including cardiac, gynecology, plastic surgery, genitourinary, thoracic, transplant, neurosurgery, bariatric surgery, acute care surgery, vascular, oral maxillofacial, oncology, and orthopedics. PSU is open 24 hours Monday AM - Saturday 5 pm. Closed Saturday 5 pm - Monday AM. As part of direct patient care, the Patient Transport Tech II is responsible for transport patients with an automated external defibrillator (AED) to and from nursing units. Respond and assist with medical emergencies and Telemetry messages from cardiac monitoring devices in order to notify clinicians or technologists appropriately. Transport cardiac patients and react to radiology/non-radiology treatment/procedural areas, and cardiac units. Delivers specimens, medications and medical equipment throughout the organization. Provides assistance by managing patient flow to the Emergency Department and Bed Management to prevent and relieve diversions and high census. Ensures patient safety utilizing Behavior Expectation for Error Prevention (BEEP) tools. Works collaboratively with fellow team members to provide a safe, caring, respectful and comfortable experience for all. Assists with emergency medical responses. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Must have current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification OR Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) OR Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) license in Virginia OR NAHTM-Certified Healthcare Transport (CHT) OR ECG – Arrhythmia Review course completion and exam passed Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Must maintain applicable certification in Virginia, Must obtain national certification (NAHTM) within 2 years of employment Must pass departmental math and English comprehension assessment CPR certification required within 30 days of hire date National Association of Healthcare Transport Management (NAHTM) Certified Healthcare Transporter (CHT) preferred Experience REQUIRED: Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc. Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical-thinking skills. Experience PREFERRED One (1) year of work experience in a healthcare setting and/or in customer service position Previous experience in intense and high-stress clinical environments and/or situations Previous EMS, CNA, or CMA experience Education/training REQUIRED: High school graduate or GED equivalent Education/training PREFERRED: Some college-level courses Independent action(s) required: Uses critical-thinking skills to recognize changes in a patient’s baseline status before and during transport, which may include medical emergencies Assesses patient’s baseline status while providing services. Ability to assess patients during transfers and emergency code responses. Obtains vitals and initiate C-spine and total spinal immobilization, as needed Efficiently utilizes Tele Tracking XT, Cerner, Epic, MX-40, bed exit alarm, Power chart, Orchestrate, Vocera and iPhone for direct patient care Patient tracking application Possesses the cognitive ability to effectively communicate and comprehend communications from nursing units, physicians, technologists and patients. Documents specimen and medical equipment inventories. Abides by hospital and departmental policies.
