About Us: 

Vault 44.01 (“Vault”) is a leading carbon capture & storage (“CCS”) developer focused on the development, capitalization, and operation of carbon storage assets throughout North America. Vault’s team brings over 40 years of direct carbon sequestration experience, with involvement in the development of carbon storage projects across North America since 2007, including three of the four currently operating saline aquifer carbon storage projects in North America as well as many others. 

Vault’s capabilities span feasibility, design, permitting, stakeholder engagement, land leasing and acquisition, facility construction, and operations. In collaboration with our industrial partners, we are currently developing CCS projects in the US Midwest, US Southeast and Canada ranging from single CO2 source, on-site sequestration projects through to the origination and development of large multi-source CO2 sequestration hubs. 

In 2022, Vault announced the closing of a capital commitment from Grey Rock Investment Partners (a Dallas, TX based private equity company).

Opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Development, the VP / Manager of Government Affairs and Public Relations will lead the governmental affairs, public policy, political and legislative strategies in all operating and business areas of Vault 44.01.

Represent Vault’s interests before federal, state legislatures, state officials, local governments and municipalities. The individual will also represent Vault in industry associations and inform business unit of key legislative, political, and public policy issues. Additionally, the role requires maintaining constructive working relationships with elected state and local officials in order to build trust with relevant stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate with local, state, and environmental policy and regulatory staff.
  • Develop and manage both key external lobbying and legal resources.
  • Manage annual budget including coordinate with external lobbyists, legal counsel, and other professionals to advance Vault’s government affairs, regulatory, and legislative policy goals.
  • Build relationships with local, county, regional, and state officials.
  • Monitor potential legislative changes (bill introductions), track legislations, and analyze impact of change on the CCS industry
  • Report regularly to management on status of major policy issues/initiatives and objectives for planned activities.
  • Act as company spokesperson in appropriate federal, regional, state, and local policy forums.
  • Manage necessary testimony, letters, reports, requests and filings to help formulate and promote Vault’s interests to minimize adverse impacts.
  • Represent and interpret Vault’s positions with state officials and their staff, in industry circles, and in public forums.
  • Build respected working partnerships with allies, associations, and other stakeholder organizations.
  • Coordinate with land, project, legal, environmental, and engineering teams as applicable.
  • Coordinate outreach and engagement efforts in support of Vault’s initiatives.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of meetings, hearings, and testimony.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum bachelor’s degree in political science, government, public policy, or related. Master’s degree in public policy or juris doctorate is preferred.
  • 8 years of experience in public policy or lobbying. Work experience in a state legislature is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical, environmental and subsurface information to a wide range of audiences is critical to the success of this role.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Previous work experience in CCS, energy (oil and gas) or ethanol industries.
  • Familiar with legislative process is preferred, particularly in the Midwest.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and reach closure within established time frames.
  • Strong attention to detail; takes pride in presenting a high-quality work product; organized with excellent time management skills;
  • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders including elected officials and regulators.
  • Adaptable, open-minded, and values other points of view.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet required deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Legal resident of the United States of America.
