The Database Reliability Engineering Team is helping to build an entire bank from scratch. Our goal is to repair the stale banking industry and build products that help improve the financial well-being of our customers. ABOUT THE CLOUD DATABASE ENGINEER ROLE

Varo is seeking a talented and energetic Sr. Cloud Database Engineer to join our team. We are responsible for managing the cloud infrastructure and databases that power our web and mobile applications. We work closely with developers and other stakeholders to ensure that our databases are highly available, scalable, and secure. As a member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies and help us build a world-class infrastructure.

What you'll be doing

• Manage and maintain our AWS cloud infrastructure, including RDS PostgreSQL databases.
• Design and implement highly available, scalable, and secure database solutions in AWS.
• Work closely with developers and other stakeholders to optimize database performance and ensure data integrity.
• Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for our databases.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Automate database administration tasks using scripting and/or configuration management tools.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud and database technologies and provide recommendations for improving our infrastructure.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide support for critical database issues

• 2 years of experience as a cloud DBA, with a focus on AWS and RDS PostgreSQL in a cloud native environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• 1 years experience in Python programming.
• 1 years of experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, CDK or Pulumi)
• 2 years of experience on AWS - particularly EC2, S3, IAM, VPC and DMS
• Solid understanding of distributed computing environments
• Experience in helping software engineers write performant queries or debug existing queries and assisting with data modeling design
• Working in a fast-paced environment and also be able to adjust your workflow to fit the task at hand

• AWS certification, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database Specialty
• Experience in containerization technologies,such as Docker or Kubernates
• Experience with systems administration in a Linux based environment
• Experience with other database technologies like, AWS DynamoDB, AWS Neptune or Document
• DBExperience with Apache Kafka, including designing and maintaining Kafka clusters and integrating Kafka with other systems
• Experience with other cloud platforms, such as Azure or Google Cloud Platform
