We are seeking a motivated Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, California in the medical capital equipment sector. This role is essential for enhancing supplier relationships, overseeing new product introductions, and elevating the quality of materials and services provided to Varian. The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will manage a designated group of suppliers to ensure top-tier product quality. Collaborating closely with the Incoming Inspection team, the SQE will develop comprehensive inspection strategies, select appropriate tools, and interpret engineering drawings to establish product acceptance criteria.

Furthermore, the SQE will establish strong ties with Varian's manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure components meet stringent requirements and lead investigations into component failures, working with suppliers and engineering teams to implement corrective actions. Additional responsibilities include assessing supplier capabilities, assisting with First Article Inspections, and conducting Performance Based Audits. This on-site position demands adherence to company quality policies and safety regulations while resolving supplier quality issues and preventing production bottlenecks.

What You will Do:

  • SQE must actively contribute to the supplier selection process, partnering closely with Varian Procurement and Engineering teams.
  • Provide hands-on involvement in selecting suitable inspection methodologies, particularly for electrical and mechanical components, along with proficiency in component test methodologies.
  • Some travel to supplier locations both domestically and internationally (up to 20%), possibly on short notice
  • Provide guidance in key techniques such as Gage R&R, CPK Studies, and Critical to Quality (CTQ) identification, with a bonus if familiar with APQP/PPAP methodologies and tools.
  • Excel in problem-solving, applying a diverse set of methodologies including the 8D approach, Lean Manufacturing techniques, 5 Whys, Fish-bone Analysis, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Kaizen.
  • Effectively engage with suppliers at all organizational levels, from senior management to direct labor personnel, in both domestic and international contexts.
  • Provide valuable support during production release
  • Communicate effectively, encompassing the capability to publish and present executive summaries that efficiently convey supplier audit results, project development status, and key issues impacting Varian's Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) objectives.
  • Finally, strong interpersonal skills are vital for fostering effective collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers

What You will have:

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Biomedical or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in Supply Chain and Supplier Quality Engineering
  • Familiar with ANSI, ASTM, MIL, ISO, and IPC/IATF standards/practices, coupled with the capability to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements like REACH, ROHS
  • Experience using SAP to create inspection plans and generate First Article notifications.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office tools, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, etc

The base pay range for this position is

Min $95,900 - Max $172,600

The pay wage range shown is based on the job posting's primary location. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
