Job Description

If you have spent your career troubleshooting electro-mechanical manufacturing processes and are looking to grow your leadership skills, join the Manufacturing Engineering team in our factory in Palo Alto, CA.

As the Manager, Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, you will lead a technical team of problem solvers while planning, directing, and coordinating Manufacturing Engineering department activities. In our Palo Alto factory, you will oversee a team of talented engineers supporting the mechanical manufacturing engineering aspects of the assembly of our TrueBeam, rework of mechanical subassemblies, and the fabrication and brazing of our linear accelerators. Additionally, you will develop and maintain the efficient and compliant manufacturing processes of our TrueBeam radiotherapy system.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Serves as a trusted leader for their team, breaking down barriers, investing in professional development, and providing feedback and coaching to the engineers reporting to them.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new engineers in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department, escalates issues, prioritizes activities, and represents the engineering team in cross-functional meetings.
  • Drives a continuous improvement-based vision for the team and factory processes.
  • Manages performance of employees in accordance with company policy.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other manufacturing managers and leadership to set and assess priorities across teams.
  • Independently oversee the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of factory manufacturing processes and equipment including manufacturing instructions, validation (IQ, OQ, PQ, TMV), and implementation of process controls.
  • Assesses cost effectiveness and feasibility of manufacturing processes; makes and implements recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Provides guidance and oversight in development and execution of factory improvements.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor and/or other appropriate leadership with programs, activities, and responsibilities of the maintenance department.
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines, including FDA and ISO 13485.
  • Partner with R & D for DfM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback, solve complex issues, and release new products.
  • Maintains records and reporting systems according to the company standards and industry regulations.

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Engineering or technical bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) and 8 years of related experience with 3 years management experience or supervisory equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering concepts, and medical device validation.
  • Proficiency in reviewing relevant technical documents and drawings.
  • Formal management training and strong leadership skills, including metric-based performance management and team development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams with lean and six sigma tools for process improvements.
  • Understanding of Engineering requirements for the healthcare equipment industry, and experience working in an FDA and ISO 13485 or similarly regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in department budget, capital planning, and stand cost methodology.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to partner with technicians and management, and communicate complex issues to various levels of the organization.

Desired Education and Experience:

  • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification
  • Previous interaction in a leadership role with other sites and operations, and with other business functional areas such as Service and R&D.
  • Engineering experience with any or all of the following: electro-mechanical assembly, major mechanical assembly, brazing, and machining.

The base pay range for this position is

Min $116,100 - Max $209,100

The pay wage range shown is based on the job posting's primary location. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
