BBTS is a combination of Bayer Business Services, Bayer Technology Services and other service activities for Bayer in North America.Job DescriptionJob Description:•Lead strategy and execution on engagement with the news media regarding a wide range ofproduct and corporate issues, including regulatory milestones, product campaigns, scientificdata, policy developments, product safety or supply, pricing, and more•Establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with healthcare journalists. Instill a soundmedia relations program approach across the U.S. pharmaceuticals media team as well asthe professionals working in external product communications. Provide relevant guidance forstaff and help team develop strategy and identify reporters critical to our business•Provide guidance/leadership for the U.S. external communications group, and with othersenior U.S. and global communications leaders build the new staff alignment to optimize theorganization•Work seamlessly with U.S. senior management in Communications, Government Relations &Policy and with the pharmaceutical Business Unit leaders to provide media relations &communications counsel regarding proactive and reactive product milestones, issues,campaigns, and other related topics. Ensure internal stakeholders are informed of relevanttrends, issues, etc. in the media•Interface with region/country leaders and global communications colleagues to executeglobal tactical plans•Partner with the other directors on the pharmaceutical communications and advocacy teamon programs, events and major medical meetings engage with third-party groups, asappropriate, on media initiatives•Identify and develop high level media opportunities for senior executives at BayerPharmaceuticals with the goal of protecting and improving the company’s reputation•Outline performance indicators and implement department-wide metrics, analytics andreporting methods in order to measure media success.QualificationsWHO YOU AREQualifications:Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE (Leadership, Integrity,Flexibility, Efficiency) values. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able toperform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilityrequired for this position:•Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or similar field and 15 ofrelated experience overseeing media relations efforts for or on behalf of a pharmaceuticalcorporations and/or related organizations•Proven established relationships with top tier and medical trade journalists•Demonstrated ability to develop media strategies, secure (or avoid/mitigate) stories andbuild/maintain relationships with healthcare journalists over time•Proven experience in crisis communications and issues management, with a particularemphasis on mitigating negative or particularly challenging news stories to ensure that thecompany’s share of voice is contained in news stories•Develop pitches, media messages, and counsel spokespeople for interviews, providinginsights on reporter, media outlet, etc.•Familiarity and experience with the digital evolution of the news media and how to takecapitalize on it on behalf of the organization•Strong writer who can take complex information and explain it in a clear and concise mannerto external audiences through press releases, media statements, Q&As and other writtenmaterial•Extremely high energy individual with intellectual depth and the ability to handle multipleprojects concurrently•Team player with strong interpersonal skills•Experienced manager of people who holds people accoun, motivates them to get themost out their abilities, and possesses strong, sound judgment.•Passionate about his/her work and opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of thepharmaceutical communications & advocacy team and Bayer•Experience in, and sensitivity to, multi-cultural environments and issues•Ability to work with a high degree of independence, within and across teams, and under timepressure•Ability to represent the Bayer brand with integrity working with internal and externalstakeholders•Creativity proactive, out-of-the-box thinker technologically savvy•Flexible, with ability to shift gears quickly as business demands require.
