The Healthcare IT Specialist is responsible for key tasks in relation to our electronic medical records (EMR) system, including being a technical resource to the management team, leading EMR upgrades, providing technical support for EMR and basic Windows functionality, overseeing MIPs tracking and compliance, implementing new automation and new third-party software processes, engaging in moderate system design and improvement to include SQL programming, and other duties as assigned. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult on and implement process improvement projects.
  • Support the senior management team in automation and implementation of new technologies.
  • Provide reports and metrics on practice performance.
  • Gain knowledge of EMR systems and SQL to troubleshoot, upgrade, improve, and build new processes.
  • Oversee EMR upgrades and patches as needed, including custom templates and SQL.
  • Ensure successful MIPs compliance.
  • Train teams on compliance and technical programs.
  • Create and set up user accounts for staff onboarding. Train new staff members on IT policies and application workflows during orientation.
  • Assist users with helpdesk requests, such as password resets and application troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with third party IT providers to keep the IT asset inventory list current.
  • Review EMR invoices to ensure accuracy of billing for technical products. 
  • Other duties as assigned, with frequent occurrence.

Targets and Outcomes

Initial goals include: 

  • Learn the basics of the EMR and SSMS within 6 months.
  • Maintain full change log of customizations for EMR upgrades.
  • Learn the MIPS compliance program and routinely track progress toward performance goals. Review and correct areas of substandard performance with the goal of a neutral or positive practice payment adjustment. 
  • Create, implement, and manage a helpdesk ticketing system. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent customer services skills and high attention to detail.
  • Humility, reflected in willingness to assist with all levels of tasks and helpdesk tickets with a gracious and positive attitude.
  • Ability to quickly learn new processes and systems, including complex technical software.
  • Strong oral communication skills to explain complex technical concepts in plain English.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues.
  • IT experience is preferred but not a requirement. Candidates without experience are encouraged to apply and will be trained on the job. 

 Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week. The standard schedule will be Monday through Friday during normal business hours. The schedule will include occasional early AM, late PM, and weekend hours as needed to support operations. 
  • The Healthcare IT Specialist will work across all offices. The position is based in Colorado Springs at our administrative headquarters office; however, regular site visits will be required in this position.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $45,000 - $76,000.
  • Starting compensation will vary based on experience. 
  • Paid time off, medical, vision, dental, and 401K with employer match in accordance with Vanguard’s benefits policy. 

Physical Working Conditions

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during a shift.
  • Must be able to move throughout the building to complete tasks during shift.
  • Must be able to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to complete tasks on site in busy medical settings with diverse groups of people.
  • Must be able to tolerate stressful, fast-paced environments. 
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office products and ability to develop knowledge of practice management software and SSMS.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, printer, copier, scanner, and fax machine.
  • Be able to communicate accurately, effectively, and frequently in both written and verbal forms.
  • Can identify color on the computer and software used by the practice.
  • Type at least 50 wpm.
  • Ability to drive independently to Vanguard offices.
  • Have safe transportation. Must maintain a clean driving record and provide proof of insurance meeting or exceeding Vanguard policy.
