Location: Conover, NC Description: BASIC FUNCTION:
Develop, implement, and support safety and environmental systems designed to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace safety and environmental hazards and opportunities within Vanguard Operations.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee all OSHA programs, inspections, and safety training to ensure compliance with regulations. Review safety programs annually and update where needed. Organize and oversee annual hearing test.
• Develop and maintain a functional understanding of pertinent OSHA standards in relation to employee safety compliance. Maintain or oversee all required logs, records, and reports required for OSHA. Ensure OSHA 300 is posted by February 1st and injury and illness data is electronically submitted to OSHA by March 2nd.
• Oversee accident investigations and look for root causes and assist in implementing corrective actions. Recap monthly for Supervisors accidents that occurred and corrective actions taken, along with any other major hazards seen.
• Monitor and manager workers’ compensation claims for Vanguard Operations.
• Perform regular walk throughs to provide security/safety checks and on-floor support to Supervisors and employees.
• Motivate, develop, and implement safety incentives for hourly employees, managers, and truck drivers.
• Develop training programs and monthly safety talks for Supervisors to deliver to the employees on key safe work practices.
• Conduct monthly meetings with 1st Aid Responders and ensure proper training for certification. Order 1st aid supplies.
• Oversee any truck accident or property damage. Investigate and gather necessary information that might be needed for reporting purposes and corrective action. Oversee driver’s annual random drug test.
• Oversee any visits from our Property Insurance company and follow-up on recommendations.
• Provide leadership in environmental compliance for Vanguard operations and ensure all environmental reporting requirements are met (i.e. annual air emissions).
• Ensure that our air permits are kept up-to-date, and documents needed are completed (boiler tune-ups, dust collection inspections, etc.).
• Provide/Conduct: hazardous waste management inspections and annual hazardous waste training, annual spill response training, and spill prevention and storm water training and inspections.
• Review all environmental programs annually and update where needed. Programs would include Stormwater, Hazardous Waste, and Spill Prevention & Control.
• Contact pest control company for issues pertaining to bugs and small pests.

Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health, Industrial Safety or related field.

• 3 to 5 years in environmental health and safety experience, conducting risk assessments and audits, and managing regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical skills to assess risk, analyze safety data, and make decisions based on their findings. Identifying patterns and trend.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are vital.
• Leadership, must be able to lead and manage teams, motivate employees to adhere to safety protocols, and implement new policies and procedures effectively.
• Knowledge of Regulations: Local, state and federal regulations is essential to ensure our organization remains compliant.
