Vanderbilt University is Hiring a Research Assistant, Cell & Developmental Biology Near Nashville, TN

The Research Assistant is in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University and is a key member responsible for supporting research in the Ethan Lee lab. The Lee lab performs analysis to understand the mechanism of Wnt signal transduction and its role in cancers, emphasizing the biochemistry of the Wnt pathway. This person will report to the Principal Investigator on a daily-weekly basis. The individual occupying this position will provide support for a drug discovery project.

The Department of Cell and Developmental Biology is a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment for cutting-edge research over a scale that spans seven powers of ten, from single molecules to whole organisms. The difference between a test tube and a cell is the spatiotemporal organization. We study molecular, cellular, and tissue organization in many of the laboratories within our department, seeking insights into fundamental biological questions and human disease. We are an interactive and highly collaborative department with an outstanding core facility and an exceptionally strong faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn and perform various laboratory procedures supporting a new drug discovery project. 
  • Initiate new assays under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
  • Help in maintaining laboratory equipment and lab areas.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks such as receiving and stocking laboratory supplies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is necessary. A degree in the biological sciences with a Minor in chemistry or other physical sciences is strongly recommended.
  • A solid foundation in basic molecular biology is necessary.
  • Some prior experience working with cultured cells, biochemistry, or molecular biology is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Attention to detail and reliability are necessary.
  • Strengths in oral and written communication are preferred.
