Vanderbilt University is Hiring a Facilities Technician Near Nashville, TN

Job Description
The Technician position provides duties as needed` to all level of stakeholders across the University. This individual will works towards becoming being proficient with Locksmithing aspects on campus, will cut duplicate or new keys using key-cutting machines, impressions or code key machines. They install locks and closers in doors and disassemble electrical and mechanical locking devices. They also maintain locking systems by repairing and replacing worn springs, tumblers and other parts.
About the Work Unit:
Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
  • Maintain security lock systems, keyless entry locks, and key control systems.
  • Repair or replace damaged components of entrance and exit doors
  • Repair or replace damaged door locks, hinges, and electric locking release mechanisms.
  • Install and repair electric strikes and electronic security hardware.
  • Change combinations and repair keyless entry mechanical locks and electro-mechanical locks for students, faculty.
  • Install Code access locks to doors and code and recode as needed.
  • File cabinet locks installed; keys made
  • Desk locks installed maintained keys made
  • Cabinet locks installed, unlocked, keys made
  • Computer skills, keying software knowledge with the ability to get information and change accordingly as needed.
  • Install and fix door hardware
  • Service and repair panic hardware both surface and concealed rod devices
  • Trouble shooting and repairing automatic operators.
  • Interpret read and follow basic maintenance service of various locks and functions.
  • Actively trouble shoot problems, make repairs as needed, as well as, reset the doors and fire alarm boxes.
  • Maintain familiarity with industry standards and recent technology
  • First call for all card access systems and work with card office and assist where needed.
  • Repair hinges and door frames as needed.
  • Maintain key machines
  • Install repair Mortise lock
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility;
Education and Certifications:
  • A High school diploma or GED is necessary.
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license is necessary.
Experience and Skills:
  • Excellent mechanical skills
  • Ability to assess and communicate door needs
  • Able to use desktop/laptop/portable computer and smartphones
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to continuously train and use new product and skills
  • 3-5 years of experience in appropriate technical filed
  • Ability to engage and communicate with all levels of management and staff is necessary.
  • Ability to install and maintain locks, related hardware, and key systems is necessary.
  • Ability to use common hand tools, machine tools, and tools common to the locksmith trade is necessary.
  • Ability to key and rekey standard and master key systems is preferred.
  • Every employee must be in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
