Vanderbilt University is Hiring a Clinical Counselor, Health & Wellness (Part-Time) Near Nashville, TN

As the Clinical Counselor, you will join the Vanderbilt community located in Nashville, Tennessee, a world-class city on the rise, with cosmopolitan flair, and small-town appeal. You will provide short-term mental health services to faculty, staff and postdocs, and specialized crisis intervention and follow-up services. You will also perform community outreach and liaison activities as needed. Multicultural awareness and responsiveness are important components. The Office of Health and Wellness serves a central role in leading a coordinated effort to promote health and wellness within the university. The office works in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, including, but not limited to, the Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Faculty Affairs, Office of the Vice Provost for Research, and Human Resources. The office oversees management of public health operations, employee wellness programs, reproductive health coordination, and all activities related to environmental health and safety and sustainability. It also provides expertise and advisement on strategic direction for all health and wellness activities for faculty, staff, and postdocs.
This is a part-time, on-site position. Preferred schedule is Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide professional, short-term mental health services to faculty and staff:
  • Develop effective working relationships with the Vanderbilt community, including Vanderbilt University Human Resources, Vanderbilt University Police Department, academic deans, faculty, and other relevant campus partners, to ensure a collaborative support network on campus to respond to faculty and staff needs and optimize support and safety for Vanderbilt employees.
  • Provide outreach and educational programming to campus community to support campus and individual mental health, wellness, and skill development.
  • Maintain appropriate and timely documentation for record keeping and communication with other service providers based on ethical and legal standards and requirements to enhance care for faculty and staff.

Provide specialized crisis intervention and follow-up services:

  • Provide clinical assessments of faculty and staff in a mental health crisis demonstrating effective diagnostic skills and effective treatment planning for a variety of mental health concerns and conditions.
  • Respond to mental health emergencies in a culturally responsive manner to support faculty and staff in a framework and manner that acknowledges their unique and intersecting personal and cultural identities.
  • Provide crisis intervention and CISM (critical incident stress management services) for individuals and groups of faculty and staff in response to traumatic events, as needed.
  • Assists with trainings and educational workshops as appropriate.
  • Identify appropriate interventions for faculty and staff in crisis, working effectively with the Office of Health and Wellness staff to access appropriate resources.
  • Communicate with campus partners supporting faculty and staff in crisis.
  • Collaborate with Vanderbilt University Human Resources and academic leaders to support employees during difficult work situations.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree (or equivalent experience) is required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • A licensed discipline specific, i.e. Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Employee Assistant Professional or Substance Abuse Professional, is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to form and maintain meaningful relationships with employees, colleagues, and all stakeholders preferred.
  • A demonstrated skill in written and oral communication, including public speaking and group meeting facilitation is preferred.
  • An ability to function in an acute care model for assessment and management of clinical emergencies is preferred.
