Vanderbilt University is Hiring an Associate Telecom Network Infrastructure Specialist Near Nashville, TN

The Associate Network Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for performing field tasks associated with connectivity for network and voice services, maintenance of backup UPSs, and the monitoring of construction and renovation work. The work unit also has a staff on-call rotation to provide after-hours support on critical issues.About the Work Unit:Vanderbilt University Information Technology is a human-centric organization that advances our university by delivering innovative solutions and frictionless experiences through collaboration.Network Infrastructure Engineering is within the Network Services team of VUIT and is led by the Manager of Network Infrastructure Operations. The work unit is required to work closely with Network Design & Engineering, Network Operations, contractors, construction managers, and related project managers.Duties and Responsibilities:Field Support:Execute essential fieldwork to establish network and voice services based on service requests and projects, including port requests and voice configurations.Skillfully troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues pertaining to voice and network equipment.Thoroughly document and maintain records of network and voice connections to update network documentation.Create comprehensive records of fiber strands, usage, and termination points for easy reference.Coordinate and provide support to network vendors and contractors in designated campus areas, ensuring adherence to Vanderbilt Housing policy.Construction and renovation projects:Monitor ongoing construction and renovation projects to ensure compliance with requirements.Conduct periodic walk-throughs to assess progress and ensure quality standards are met.Collaborate with Network Operations to ensure timely and accurate installation of patch cables and equipment as per specifications.Power conditioning equipment (UPSs) and Network Equipment Room Monitoring:Under the guidance of the senior position, expertly install and configure UPS equipment to meet VUIT specifications for effective remote monitoring.Regularly monitor UPS equipment performance and take corrective actions as needed.Conduct routine checks on communications rooms to verify compliance with specifications and promptly address any discrepancies found.Maintain detailed records of findings and corrective actions taken.Other:Ensure adherence to ITSM processes to streamline operations.Promptly notify management of service-affecting incidents and provide regular updates on major issues' status.Keep relevant documentation up to date with changes and improvements.Exhibit strong task and time management skills, prioritizing critical activities effectively.Supervisory Relationships:This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities. The Associate Network Infrastructure Specialist reports administratively and functionally to the Manager of Network Infrastructure Operations.Education and Certifications:A technical degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is preferred.Possession of Comp TIA Net or an equivalent certification is preferred.A valid driver's license is required.Qualifications:Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience is necessary.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration are necessary.Strong understanding of basic network and voice connections is necessary.Proficiency in basic voice troubleshooting skills is necessary.Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and InclusionAt Vanderbilt University, we are intentional about and assume accountability for fostering advancement and respect for equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students, faculty, and staff.
