Delivers assistance in managing systems and infrastructure components for mission-critical computing environments. Provides support services for systems administration, networking, performance tuning, monitoring and capacity planning while adhering to enterprise ITIL process and procedures. Follows policies and procedures for maintaining the security and integrity of the system and ensures the system meets availability and disaster recovery requirements. Ability to solve low-mid level problems.

Vanderbilt Information Technology is a division of the University whose mission is to provide world-class information technology to Vanderbilt University. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Core Accountabilities:

• Participates in administration of the day-to-day operation of Vanderbilt host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Contribute in applying revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
• Installs, modifies, and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems. Provides server support related to other software

Staff and Personal Development:

• Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for Vanderbilt IT to take advantage of new technology.
• Works with technical staff on how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.

Procedures and Planning:

• Follows guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, computer storage, and other components.
• Follows procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
• Participates in the coordination of project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations. Participates in the planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Manager of Windows Services.

Education and Certifications:

• Associates degree necessary (relevant experience may substitute)
• 1 year or relevant experience necessary

Qualifications:

• Experience with programming languages and operating systems, current equipment, technologies in use, system administration, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, and system performance monitoring tools is necessary
• Effective project management techniques, principles, and practices are necessary
• Ability to: Plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures
• Ability to communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility
• Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively
