This position is assigned to the Granville Correctional Institution in Butner, NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible.
Due to the nature of this position teleworking option is not available.

Essential Duties

• Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline and make subject matter meaningful, relevant, and aligned content to students who are preparing for the final HiSET exams.
• Teach high-school-level reading and math concepts and select appropriate instructional materials.
• Adhere to correctional policies and procedures, and maintain the confidentiality of student information.
• Incorporate available technology to enhance teaching and the education experience when appropriate.
• Contextualize educational opportunities to include career readiness development.
• Provide formal and informal assessments of each student to determine the appropriate initial basic skills placement level. Ensure students are pre and post-tested after established instructional hours.
• Develop and implement high-quality lesson plans that include instruction to meet the varied learning styles of students served.
• Facilitate the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
• Maintain organized student class records that represent accurate and current class attendance, student academic performance, process, and contact hours.
• Submit accurate and complete documents at the end of each semester or term to the appropriate office.
• Demonstrate a positive and proactive approach in identifying problems and managing projects.
• Participate in professional development and share expertise and best practices within the college.
• Inform Prison Staff and Coordinator of any student issues (attendance, behavior, etc.) as soon as possible.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Previous teaching experience at the high school level

• Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Previous teaching experience in Adult Education or related field

Physical Demands

• Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
