We are seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a part-time Court Bailiff. As a Bailiff, you will play a crucial role in maintaining order and security within the court. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety of all individuals present in the courtroom, including judges, attorneys, jurors, and the general public.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Maintain the safety, order, and decorum in the courtroom before, during and after all court proceedings.
Conduct a physical inspection of the courtroom for logistical and security purposes before and after every proceeding.
Secure the courtroom when not in use.
Monitor and screen all persons waiting for court proceedings.
Verify the attendance of all necessary parties and direct all persons in and out of the courtroom.
Ensure appropriate courtroom behavior.
Assist with transport to detention when necessary.
Perform any other duties as deemed appropriate and proper by the Judge, Magistrate or Court Administrator.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Patience, objectivity, maturity, initiative and adaptability; must be able to recognize and react to possible stressful situations; ability to manage conflict and to effectively handle difficult people and conversations; must maintain confidence and exercise sound judgment and discretion; ability to understand complex rules, court procedures and specialized legal terminology; excellent verbal communication skills; knowledge of and skill in the use of computers.
Position Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent (Required); prior law enforcement experience (Preferred); basic familiarity with court proceedings (Preferred); knowledge of security methods and safety practices (Preferred); knowledge in the application of firearm and defense techniques (Preferred); skill in the operation of a handgun and the ability to qualify to carry a weapon (Preferred); Must fulfill all training requirements necessary. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with Court officials, law enforcement and the general public.
