Do you enjoy working with children? The Valparaiso YMCA is looking for an assistant teacher in our downtown preschool location at Little Angels Learning Center in downtown Valparaiso. Duties include ensuring the health and safety of all children, while assisting with the delivery of age-appropriate educational preschool programs.

This is a part-time position, early morning hours 6:00-9:30am Monday-Friday
Additional hours available through subbing or on school breaks
Hourly rate: $12
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Ensure the health and safety of all children, while overseeing the creation and delivery of off-site, age-appropriate educational preschool programs. Positively engage with members and families to enhance their experience and their childrens growth at our facility while assisting the Lead Teacher in delivering an age-appropriate educational programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Ensure the safety of all children; maintain a high level of confidentiality.
a.Maintain awareness at all times of childrens activities.
b.Follow emergency procedures as outlined by the Y Emergency Procedure Guide.
c.Never leave children unsupervised.
d.Follow parent/guardian sign in and sign out procedures.
2.Follow provided curriculum activities, interacting with and motivating children.
3.Supervise and interact with children in a variety of activities.
a.Provide comfort to children
4.Document attendance.
5.Respectfully communicate with children, parents, supervisors and other Y staff.
a.Provide feedback to parent/guardian.
6.Adhere to work schedule and substitute for other staff as needed.
7.Provide upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment.
8.Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
9.Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in employee handbook and other communications. Obtain and maintain required training(s).
10.Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum age 18 required.
Previous child educational experience preferred
