Part- Time Middle School Math Teacher Valor Christian Academy

Mission Statement: To provide each student with an uncompromising Christian education devoted to academic excellence in a family-friendly, safe, and nurturing environment.

Job functions and duties include:

  • Plan and teach Middle School Math-6, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I
  • Facilitate a dynamic learning environment that incorporates current best practices in Math that are intended to build and prepare students for high school math problem-solving strategies.
  • Collaboratively maintain and develop curriculum that allows students the opportunities to think critically and solve word problems.
  • Participate in updating Valor’s Middle School Math Scope and Sequence and curriculum as needed.
  • For each subject, create a year-long curriculum map as well as weekly, detailed lesson plans that incorporate all required standards as indicated by Valor’s Scope and Sequence Manual
  • Integrates Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum.
  • Uses homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work. Ensure that math homework follows schoolwide homework policies.
  • Conducts formal and informal assessments of student progress on a regular basis and provides progress reports and other feedback to students, parents, and administration as required/needed.
  • Maintains regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
  • Maintains a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom, with attention to bulletin boards, chalk boards, book storage, and furniture arrangement.
  • Seeks the counsel of the principal, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  • Develops and maintains rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration. Responds to student/parent questions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Adjusts lessons as needed to meet the needs of students with various learning needs and styles.
  • Participate in required staff events throughout the year, including Teacher In-Service in August, quarterly PTF meeting attendance, Open House and Super Saturday (if applicable), Commissioning Service, parent-teacher conferences, middle school field trips, adjunct duties, etc.

Qualities and qualifications, we desire in a candidate:

  • A strong testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and evidence of faith in action.
  • A strong mathematics and teaching background and a commitment to working with middle school-aged students.
  • Knowledge and experience with Common Core curricula, specifically Big Ideas.
  • Knowledge and expertise with modern mathematics pedagogy and effective mathematics teaching practices.
  • Uses acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speaks with clear articulation.
  • Demonstrates the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality.
  • BA Degree or higher in mathematics, science, engineering, or a related field.
  • California Credential desired.
  • Minimum 2 years of classroom teaching in Middle School education.
  • Maintains a personal appearance that models cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and is in compliance with school policy.
  • Current Infant/Child CPR/First Aid Certificate and certified training in safety, mandated report, sexual harassment prevention/reporting. Note: This training can be conducted in coordination with Valor Christian Academy prior to the start of the new school year.
  • Must pass background check.

Job Data:

  • Exempt: 10 Month, Part-Time Employee
  • Hourly: $23-$25
  • Start Date: August 12, 2024
